BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is returning home after 17 years. He will depart for Dhaka from Heathrow Airport on Wednesday (December 24) at 6:15 pm local time (12:15 pm Bangladesh time) on Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-202. If all goes well, he is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:55 am tomorrow, Thursday (December 25). His wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman and daughter Zaima Rahman are returning home with him.
\nMeanwhile, BNP has prepared a grand showdown and reception across the country, including the capital Dhaka, to celebrate Tarique Rahman’s historic return. The party has said that the biggest public reception in history has been organized in Dhaka to welcome him. From the airport, he will go directly to the Purbachal Highway Express area adjacent to Kuril in the capital. The reception will be held there.
\nBNP leaders are expecting a large number of leaders, workers and supporters from different parts of the country to attend the event. According to them, it can surpass all past political rallies and receptions in terms of participation. BNP is also expecting spontaneous presence of the general public along with party leaders. Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Purbachal area in view of Tarique Rahman’s arrival. Special measures have been taken by the law enforcement agencies. Party volunteers are also working to complete the arrangements in an orderly manner. BNP has also received formal permission from the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office to organize the reception. Overall preparations, including the construction of the stage, are almost at the final stage. Meanwhile, top party leaders are visiting the venue from time to time to see the progress of the preparations. Incidentally, Tarique Rahman went to the UK with his family after his release from prison during the One-Eleven government in 2008. After that, he stayed there for a long time.
