A court has granted a three-day remand for questioning to 12 accused arrested in the case of beating and burning the body of worker Dipu Chandra Das on charges of blasphemy in Bhaluka, Mymensingh. Judge Shahadat Hossain of the Mymensingh Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court gave this order on Monday (December 22) afternoon. The court’s police inspector Sheikh Mostachinur Rahman confirmed this information.
\nThe remanded are Ashikur Rahman (25), Qayyum (25), Md. Limon Sarkar (19), Md. Tarek Hossain (19), Md. Manik Mia (20), Ershad Ali (39), Nizum Uddin (20), Alamgir Hossain (38), Md. Miraj Hossain Akon (46), Md. Ajmal Hasan Sagir (26), Md. Shahin Mia (19) and Md. Nazmul (21). Police Inspector Mostachinur said, “The police have applied for a five-day remand for the 12 arrested accused. Later, the judge ordered a three-day remand for each of them.”
\nOn Thursday night (December 18), 28-year-old Dipu Das, an employee of ‘Pioneer Knitwears BD Limited Company’ in Jamirdia area of \u200b\u200bBhaluka, was beaten to death on charges of blasphemy. Then his body was tied to a tree branch and set on fire. On receiving information, the police went at night and recovered the half-burnt body and sent it for autopsy. Dipu is the son of Ravi Chandra Das of Mokamia Kanda village in Tarakanda upazila. He had been working in this company for two years.
\nIn this incident, Dipu’s brother filed a case against unknown persons as the complainant. Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-14 has arrested seven people and the police have arrested three more in the incident. Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) Abdullah Al Mamun said, “No one has the right to take the law into their own hands. An investigation is underway to find out why the youth was handed over to the public instead of the police. A drive is underway to arrest the other accused.”
\nDeceased Deepu’s father Ravi Chandra Das alleged, “Dipu was killed in a planned manner on false charges due to a dispute over increasing production.” Deepu’s sister Champa Das said, “Dipu was educated and aware.
