Bangladeshis make up the majority of the 539 migrants rescued from the sea near the island of Gavdos in southern Greece. According to local coast guard sources, 437 of those rescued are Bangladeshi nationals. The migrants were rescued from a fishing boat in the sea south of Agia Galini early on Friday (December 19) local time.
\nIn addition to the Bangladeshis, Pakistani and Indian nationals are also among the rescued. They were later taken to the island of Crete. Greek authorities claim that most of the rescued are citizens of Bangladesh, Pakistan and Egypt. They are currently being held in a temporary shelter.
