The funeral of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in a terrorist attack on the UN peacekeeping mission in Sudan has been held. Their funeral was held at the Central Army Mosque premises of Dhaka Cantonment at around 9:30 am today, Sunday (December 21). This information was given in a press release sent by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
\nThe slain soldiers are Corporal Md. Masud Rana, a resident of Natore, Soldiers Md. Mominul Islam and Soldier Shanto Mandal, residents of Kurigram, Soldier Shamim Reza, a resident of Rajbari, Mess waiter Mohammad Jahangir Alam, a resident of Kishoreganj, and Laundry worker Md. Sabuj Mia, a resident of Gaibandha. The ISPR said that before the funeral, brief biographies of the slain soldiers were read out. Later, special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of their souls. After the funeral, they were buried with due state honors.
\nAfter the state formalities, the helicopter carrying the bodies of the slain soldiers left for their respective districts so that they could be buried in their family graveyards. Earlier, the bodies of the six slain peacekeepers reached Dhaka at 11:05 am on Saturday (December 20). Bangladesh Army Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim received the bodies of the slain soldiers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. At that time, all those present stood and observed a minute of silence and saluted. Incidentally, on December 13, six Bangladesh Army peacekeepers were martyred and nine others were injured in a drone attack by separatist armed groups on the Kadugali logistics base of the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Abyei, Sudan. The injured peacekeepers are Lieutenant Colonel Khondaker Khalequzzaman, a resident of Kushtia, Sergeant Md., a resident of Dinajpur. Mostakim Hossain, a resident of Dhaka, Corporal Afroza Parvin Iti, a resident of Barguna, Lance Corporal Mohibul Islam, a resident of Kurigram, Soldier Md. Mejbaul Kabir, a resident of Rangpur, Soldier Mosha. Umme Hani Akhter, a resident of Manikganj, Soldier Md. Manazir Ahsan, a resident of Noakhali.
