The Ministry of External Affairs has summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner Pranay Verma to convey the Indian government’s concerns over former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s recent statements. The Indian High Commissioner was summoned to the Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday (December 14) morning. A senior official of the Ministry of External Affairs told news agency UNB that Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam summoned Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma at the State Guest House in Padma.
\nIn this context, the Ministry of External Affairs said that the Bangladesh government has been asked to convey its deep concern to the Indian government over Sheikh Hasina’s ‘continuation of provocative statements calling for her involvement in terrorist activities in Bangladesh’. Bangladesh has also called for the immediate extradition of the convicted Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.
\nIn addition, the Ambassador’s attention has been drawn to the anti-Bangladesh activities of Awami League members living in India to disrupt the upcoming elections. The Ministry of External Affairs has urged the Indian government to stop this criminal activity and extradite them to Bangladesh as soon as possible. The Ministry of External Affairs has sought India’s cooperation in preventing the escape of the suspects involved in the assassination attempt on Bangladesh Inquilab Manch spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi from India and, if they are able to enter Indian territory, to ensure their immediate arrest and extradition to Bangladesh.
\nThe Ministry of External Affairs stressed that, as a neighbouring country, India is expected to stand by the people of Bangladesh in upholding justice and safeguarding the democratic process.
