In post-independence Bangladesh, Jamaat has been doing politics from a safe position. However, during the last 15 years of Awami League rule, the party was somewhat stagnant. After the collapse of the Awami League in the mass uprising of students and the public, the party’s activities gained momentum again. Jamaat has been working hard to consolidate its position in elections and politics. Along with this, the controversial and objectionable statements of the leaders have also increased.
\nSometimes the OC of the police station was offered to provide ‘auxiliary police’ with Shibir-Jamaat people, and sometimes Jahangirnagar University, the Prophet was a journalist, the Prophet fled from Mecca to Medina – such ugly comments have given rise to debates among the party leaders.
\nRecently, the statement of Shahjahan Chowdhury, a member of the Jamaat’s central working committee, has become a ‘topic of discussion in the country’. He declared that the administration will be taken under control. For Shahjahan Chowdhury, the sun will stand still, he called himself the guardian of Chittagong. Civil society and professionals have condemned and protested against such bold statements.
\nOnce again, the statement of another party leader Amir Hamza in the Waz Mahfil has been criticized. Although he claims to be an alumnus of Jahangirnagar University, it is not correct. In a rally, he also created a controversy by commenting that Muhammad (PBUH) is a journalist. Despite these incidents, Jamaat has limited itself to warnings and condolences. As a result, the question arises in the public mind that are these leaders reckless due to the party’s indifference?
\nJamaat’s Assistant Secretary General and party spokesperson Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair said that the inappropriate statement is the individual’s own, and the party will not take responsibility for it. He said, we will be as strict as possible if necessary. If someone’s correction is not as meaningful as expected, then we will take action according to the constitution.
\nAnother assistant secretary general of the party, Hamidur Rahman Azad, said, “As a party, we do not accept any mistakes.
