Two army personnel, Colonel Redwan and Major Rafat, have been produced before the tribunal for the hearing of the crimes against humanity case in the killing of 28 people in Rampura. They were produced before the tribunal at 9:30 am today, Monday (November 24).
\nA three-member judicial panel led by International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will hear the case. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and retired District and Sessions Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
\nEarlier, the International Crimes Tribunal formally took cognizance of the charges against four people, including former Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) officer Lieutenant Colonel Redwanul Islam, in a case of crimes against humanity filed on October 8 during the anti-discrimination student movement in the capital’s Rampura. At the same time, the court issued arrest warrants against the accused.
\nThe other accused in the case are another BGB officer Major Md. Rafat Bin Alam Moon, former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Khilgaon region Md. Rashedul Islam and former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station Md. Mashiur Rahman.
\nThe chargesheet states that 28 people were killed and many others injured in firing by law enforcement agencies during the student movement in Rampura in July-August. At that time, BGB officer Redwanul was seen firing directly at the protesters and the other accused were also leading the incident.
