Thirteen army officers have been produced before the International Crimes Tribunal in two separate cases of crimes against humanity related to the disappearance and torture of opposition figures in the Task Force Interrogation (TFI) cell and the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) during the long rule of the Awami League. There are 30 accused in these two cases, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
\nToday, Sunday (November 23), the police brought them to the tribunal in a prison van under tight security at around 10 am. After that, the army officers were taken out of the prison van and taken to jail one by one.
\nToday, a three-member judicial panel led by Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder will hear the ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the current and former army officers in the two cases. The arrest warrants of the army officers are likely to be returned and a report on the appointment of the state defense for the absconding accused may be submitted.
\nThe 13 army officers who have been brought to the tribunal are former Additional Director General of RAB Brigadier General Md. Jahangir Alam, Brigadier General Tofail Mostafa Sarwar, Brigadier General Md. Kamrul Hasan, Brigadier General Md. Mahabub Alam, Brigadier KM Azad, Colonel Abdullah Al Momen, Colonel Anwar Latif Khan (on retirement leave), former Director of RAB Intelligence Wing Lieutenant Colonel Md. Mashiur Rahman, Lieutenant Colonel Saiful Islam Sumon, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Sarwar Bin Kashem, former Director of DGFI Major General Sheikh Md. Sarwar Hossain, Brigadier General Md. Mahbubur Rahman Siddiqui and Brigadier General Ahmed Tanvir Mazahar Siddiqui.
\nThe hearing date for these two cases of crimes against humanity was fixed on November 20. However, today has been fixed in view of the state’s application. On October 26, a two-member judicial panel led by Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud of Tribunal-1 passed this order.
\nEarlier, on October 22, 13 officers in army custody were produced before the tribunal. After the hearing, the tribunal ordered their arrest and sent to jail. At the same time, advertisements were ordered to be published in two national newspapers within seven days to produce the absconding accused. Which has already been published.
\nOn October 8, the state filed formal charges against a total of 30 people in two separate cases. Later, the tribunal took cognizance of the charges and issued arrest warrants against them. Sheikh Hasina and 17 others were charged in the torture incident in the secret room of the RAB Task Force Interrogation (TFI).
\nIn addition, 13 people have been charged in another case of crimes against humanity on charges of disappearance in the Joint Interrogation Cell (JIC) or Ain Ghor. Sheikh Hasina and Tariq Ahmed Siddique are also named in this case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
