A writ has been filed in the High Court Division seeking withdrawal of the statement given by the accused in the case of attacking the house of a metropolitan sessions judge in Rajshahi, killing his son and seriously injuring his wife while in police custody, a judicial investigation against the police and security of the judges. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Bellal Hossain (Munshi Bellal) filed the writ before a double bench of Justice Faiz Ahmed and Justice Md. Manjur Alam in the High Court Division on Monday (November 17).
\nIt is learnt that Limon Mia, the accused in the case of attacking the house of a metropolitan sessions judge in Rajshahi, killing his son and seriously injuring his wife, made misleading statements in several media outlets while in police custody. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Bellal Hossain (Munshi Bellal) filed a writ petition seeking the withdrawal of the viral statement, the formation of a judicial investigation committee against the police officers responsible for the incident, and the immediate implementation of the Supreme Court circular on the security of judges. Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Khan has been appointed as the lawyer for the petitioner in the writ petition.
\nThe writ petition has made the Home Secretary, Law Secretary, Information Secretary, Inspector General of Police, BTRC Chairman, Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner, Director of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital, and the officers-in-charge of Rajshahi’s Rajpara Police Station, Sylhet’s Jalalabad Police Station, and Rajshahi’s Boalia Police Station as respondents.
\nThe writ petition seeks a rule on why the defendants should not be held responsible for the failure to ensure the safety of the victim judge’s family. In addition, the writ petition has sought directions to formulate appropriate policies to ensure the safety of judges and their families, has asked the media to remove the ‘victim-blaming’ statements of the accused in police custody, has directed the BTRC chairman to take appropriate action, has asked to form a judicial investigation committee against the concerned police officers and has asked to immediately implement the circular issued earlier by the Supreme Court regarding the safety of judges.
