The International Crimes Tribunal will soon deliver its verdict in the case of former ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and three others accused of crimes against humanity. The judges have already entered the court.
\nApart from Sheikh Hasina, the other two accused in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan and former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun. Among them, former IGP Mamun has given his statement as a ‘royal witness’. Meanwhile, in the wake of the verdict, the Supreme Court has written to the Army Headquarters to deploy the army to strengthen the security of the tribunal.
\nLast Thursday (November 13), the three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder fixed this date for the verdict in the case. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury. Earlier, on June 1, the state filed a formal complaint against Sheikh Hasina and the three accused in the tribunal. The formal complaint brought a total of five charges against the three accused. The charges are – Sheikh Hasina’s provocative speech at a press conference held at Ganabhaban on July 14 last year; ordering the use of helicopters, drones and lethal weapons to eliminate protesters; shooting dead Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur; shooting dead six protesters in the capital’s Chankharpul area and burning six people in Ashulia. The tribunal framed formal charges against the three accused on July 10 on these five charges. Accused Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are absconding.
