The army and BGB have been deployed in the tribunal and Supreme Court areas to strengthen security measures ahead of the verdict of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising.
\nA sufficient number of army personnel have been deployed since early morning today, Monday (November 17). Earlier, a letter was sent from the Supreme Court administration to the army headquarters. The Supreme Court administration confirmed the sending of the letter to the army headquarters yesterday (November 16). Earlier, in view of the announcement of the verdict date of this case, the Supreme Court administration had also sent a letter last Thursday to deploy the army. Then the army was also deployed in the Supreme Court and the tribunal.
\nIncidentally, the verdict in the case against ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the three accused in the case of crimes against humanity committed during the July uprising will be announced today. Last Thursday (November 13), Justice Md. The three-member International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Golam Mortuza Majumder set the date for the announcement of the verdict in the case. The other two members of the tribunal are Justice Md. Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md. Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury. Earlier, on June 1, the state filed a formal complaint against Sheikh Hasina and the three accused in the tribunal. A total of five charges were brought against the three accused in the formal complaint.
\nThe charges are – Sheikh Hasina’s provocative speech at a press conference held at Ganabhaban on July 14 last year; ordering the use of helicopters, drones and lethal weapons to eliminate protesters; shooting dead Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur; shooting dead six protesters in the capital’s Chankharpul area and burning six people in Ashulia. The tribunal framed formal charges against the three accused on July 10 on these five charges.
\nAccused Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are absconding. The only accused arrested in this case is former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun. It is worth noting that on the day of the formal indictment (July 10), former IGP Mamun admitted his involvement in crimes against humanity during the uprising.
