The Bangladesh Navy has rescued 24 fishermen from a fishing trawler floating in the Bay of Bengal with its engine broken down. Yesterday, Monday (November 10), the Navy ship ‘Banouja Aparajeyo’, while on regular patrol, rescued 24 fishermen including a fishing trawler named ‘Madina-6’.
\n‘Banouja Aparajeyo’ Captain Lieutenant Commander Md. Asif Adnan, (Taj), BN, said that the Bangladesh Navy has been conducting regular patrols in the sea and coastal areas to protect the sovereignty of the country. In continuation of this, yesterday, the Navy ship ‘Banouja Aparajeyo’, while on regular patrol, spotted a fishing trawler named ‘Madina-6’, which was floating in the Bay of Bengal with its engine broken down and was about 29 miles south of the fairway buoy. At that time, the navy ship identified the trawler as ‘engine broken and dangerous’ through radar and quickly reached the spot.
\nWhen the ship reached the fishing trawler, the fishermen said that the trawler’s engine had broken down and it was floating in the deep sea and communication was not possible due to lack of communication equipment. Later, the navy members rescued the trawler and the fishermen and provided them with necessary food, clean water and first aid.
\nHe said that despite the strong waves and adverse weather, the navy ship towed the trawler with the rescued fishermen and brought it safely to Hiran Point adjacent to the Sundarbans for 35 miles and handed it over to the ‘Coast Guard West Zone’ for further action. The 24 fishermen on the trawler are currently healthy. It is learned that the accident-hit trawler had gone to sea from Kutubdia on October 29 to fish and due to a mechanical fault, the engine broke down and started floating in the deep sea.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
