US President Donald Trump has claimed that every American will get at least $2,000 in benefits or ‘dividends’ from tariffs imposed on foreign goods. He said that this tariff policy will make the country’s economy stronger than before. In a report, the country’s media outlet CBS News reported this information.
\nYesterday, Sunday (November 9), Trump wrote on his social media Truth Social, ‘Those who oppose tariffs are complete idiots! Everyone will get at least $2,000 in dividends (except high-income people)’.
\nFollowing these comments, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said on ABC News’ ‘This Week’ that the initial result of imposing tariffs will be an increase in government revenue. However, its long-term goal is not to collect revenue, but to revive the country’s industrial and manufacturing sectors and bring balance to trade.
\n“This is not about raising money, it is about restoring economic balance,” Besant said. Trump’s proposed $2,000 dividend could be delivered in a variety of ways, including tax cuts or elimination. The president has already announced plans to eliminate taxes on tips and overtime.
\nOn the other hand, the Trump administration’s tariff policy has sparked controversy across the country. Opponents have accused the tariffs on foreign goods of placing an additional tax burden on American businesses and consumers.
\nLast week, a case was filed in the Supreme Court over the tariff policy. During the hearing, Chief Justice John Roberts said, “If the president’s power to conduct foreign policy outweighs the power of Congress to tax, then the balance of power between the two institutions is disturbed.”
\nIn response to the comment, Trump wrote on social media, “If the president can stop all trade with foreign countries, why object to tariffs? It is completely absurd.” He added, “Tariffs are now making foreign businesses more interested in investing in the United States.
