Two months after his withdrawal, former Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan has been suspended. He was withdrawn two months ago for blocking public roads. A notification issued by the Police-1 branch of the Home Ministry on Monday (November 10) has ordered his temporary suspension from government service. The notification was signed by Senior Secretary Nasimul Gani.
\nThe notification states that in the public interest, it is necessary and appropriate to prevent Gazipur GMP Police Commissioner (withdrawn from duty at Police Headquarters) Md. Nazmul Karim Khan from government service. Therefore, Nazmul Karim Khan has been suspended from government service as per the provisions of the Government Services Act. The order further states that during the temporary suspension, he will remain attached to the Home Ministry and will receive food allowance as per the rules.
\nIn August this year, a report published in a national daily sparked widespread criticism when GMP Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan was accused of blocking roads while commuting to work. In response, Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that he had also been issued a show cause notice.
\nLater, on September 1, an order signed by Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam removed Nazmul Karim Khan from the post of GMP Commissioner and ordered him to report to the police headquarters. On November 11 last year, Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan was appointed as GMP Commissioner.
