A Jubo Dal worker named Hamidul Islam (35) was beaten up by locals on suspicion of theft in Atwari upazila of Panchagarh and his left leg was broken. The incident took place on Friday (November 7) night in Trishulia area of \u200b\u200bBalrampur union of the upazila. Later, on receiving information, the police rescued him on Saturday morning and admitted him to Atwari Upazila Health Complex. Later, he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment yesterday afternoon.
\nHamidul Boda is a resident of Notunhat South Salsiri area of \u200b\u200bJhalai Salsiri union of the upazila. He is a Jubo Dal worker of ward number 8 of that union and general secretary of Kamarhat Banik Samity. Locals say that he is the general secretary of ward number 8 committee. However, the party has claimed that he is a member of the committee.
\nLocal sources claim that around 2:30 am last Friday, a lock was broken off at a house belonging to Hamidul Bhavesh Chandra Roy in Trishulia area of \u200b\u200bBalrampur union in Atwari upazila. Hearing the noise, the family members tried to catch him, but he fell into a canal while running away. Later, the locals caught him and gave him a public wash. In the morning, the police rescued him and admitted him to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex.
\nBhavesh Chandra Roy said, I went to the police station to file a case. The police made me sign a compromise. They said that since he is sick, a case can be filed later if I want. So I signed and left. If there is no intention to steal, then why would a person from another area break the lock and enter my house so late?
\nAtwari Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Humayun Kabir said, the youth’s left leg is broken in several places. His right hand is also injured and bleeding. We have shifted him to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital for better treatment.
\nOfficer-in-Charge (OC) of Atwari Police Station Rafiqul Islam Sarkar said that the locals beat the young man a lot on suspicion of being a thief. Since his condition was critical, the doctors sent him to Rangpur for better treatment. The plaintiff has stated in writing that he will not file a complaint in this incident.
\nAnwar Hossain Manik, president of Jhalai Salshiri Union Jubo Dal in Boda Upazila, said that the young man is a member of the ward committee. He does not hold any important position. I heard that he had returned from a wedding at night and had gone to meet a woman in the area. There, the locals beat him up on suspicion of being a thief. I heard that his leg was broken.
\nHowever, it was not possible to contact Hamidul Islam to know about this. Meanwhile, when I called the number given when Hamidul was admitted to the Atwari Upazila Health Complex, his sister-in-law Safiyar Rahman answered the phone.
