Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that action will be taken against the police if political party leaders and activists are given illegal benefits. He made this statement while briefing reporters after the meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order at the conference room of the Home Ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday (November 4) afternoon. The meeting discussed the overall law and order situation in the country, including drug prevention, the upcoming national parliamentary elections, the border situation and steps taken to recover illegal weapons.
\nResponding to a question from reporters on what action the police will take against any party if they are given special benefits in the elections, the Home Affairs Advisor said, “An ‘Election Investigation Committee’ has been formed for this year’s national parliamentary elections. If anyone neglects to perform his duties in the elections, he will be immediately brought under the law. A GD was filed in this case earlier too. But this time they will be brought under the law immediately.”
\nRegarding provocative statements on social media, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Most of the time, these statements are not true, but the reports of journalists are usually true.” At that time, he requested journalists to prepare accurate and investigative reports to counter provocative statements on social media.
