Out of the 16 seats declared by the BNP in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election, the names of potential candidates for 10 seats in Chittagong have been announced. New candidates have dominated in this. Although confidence has been placed on candidates who have contested in the past in five seats, completely new candidates have been given in five seats. Candidates for six seats will be announced in the second phase.
\nThe five seats in which the BNP has placed its trust in Praveen are: Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the party’s standing committee for Chittagong-10 (Double Mooring-Pahartali-Halisahar-Khulshi) constituency, Nurul Amin, the chairman of Chittagong-1 (Mirsarai) constituency and former joint convener of the North District BNP, Ershad Ullah, the convener of the Urban BNP for Chittagong-8 (Boalkhali-Chandgaon-Panchlaish and Bayezid (partial) constituency, Enamul Haque Enam, the former senior joint convener of the South District BNP for Chittagong-12 (Patia) constituency, and Sarwar Jamal Nizam, a former member of parliament for Chittagong-13 (Anowara-Karnaphuli) constituency. Among them, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was the party’s candidate for Chittagong-11 constituency in the 11th National Parliament election. Earlier, Begum Khaleda contested from the then Constituency-8 (Double Mooring, Pahartali, Bandar) in 1991. Zia ran for parliament. At that time, Amir Khasru Begum served as Zia’s coordinator. Later, in the same year, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury was elected as a member of parliament as a BNP nominated candidate in the by-election of the Chittagong-8 constituency. Then in the 1996 and 2001 national elections, Amir Khasru was elected as a member of parliament from the same area. In the ninth national election held in 2008, Amir Khasru was defeated by an Awami League candidate. BNP did not participate in the tenth national election in 2014.
\nErshad Ullah said, I think this nomination of mine is not mine alone, it is the nomination of all the leaders and activists of Chittagong-8 constituency and all those who have made sacrifices. I will work in unity with all the leaders and activists. I want to gift the seat to the chairperson and the acting chairperson.
\n5 new faces<\/strong>
\nFormer joint convener of North District BNP Sarwar Alamgir in Chittagong-2 (Fatikchhari) constituency, former joint convener in Chittagong-4 (Sitakunda) constituency Kazi Salauddin, BNP’s joint organizing secretary (Chittagong Division) Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin for Chittagong-5 (Hathazari) constituency, BNP’s central executive committee member Hummam Quader Chowdhury for Chittagong-7 (Rangunia) constituency, and former minister Zafrul Islam Chowdhury and South District BNP joint convener Mishkatul Islam Chowdhury Pappa for Chittagong-16 (Baanshkhali) constituency have been nominated as potential candidates. It is learnt that all these five BNP candidates are new faces.
\nIt is learnt that in the 11th National Parliament election, BNP has given up Chittagong-5 (Hathazari) constituency to its partner party Kalyan Party and Chittagong-7 constituency to its partner party LDP. In addition, Colonel Azim Ullah Bahar for Chittagong-2 constituency, BNP Chairperson’s advisor Lion Aslam Chowdhury for Chittagong-4 constituency and BNP candidate late Zafrul Islam Chowdhury for Chittagong-16 constituency. That is, Azim Ullah Bahar and Aslam Chowdhury has dropped out of the 11th National Parliament elections despite being a candidate.
\nReferring to the Trinamool’s victory in Fatikchhari, Sarwar Alamgir said that he wants to hand over the Fatikchhari seat to party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman in unity with all levels of the party.
\nCandidates have not been announced in 6 seats<\/strong>
\nThe seats in which candidates have not been announced are – Chittagong-3 (Sandwip), Chittagong-6 (Raujan), Chittagong-9 (Kotwali-Bakaliya), Chittagong-11 (Bandar-Patenga), Chittagong-13 (Chandanaish-Satkania partially) and Chittagong-15 (Lohagara-Satkania partially).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
