Two Rohingya women have been arrested at the Chandpur Regional Passport Office on charges of applying for passports. They were later handed over to the police. They were arrested on Tuesday (November 4) afternoon. The arrested are Subaira, daughter of Sahisu Alam, resident of E-11 Block of Camp No. 2 in Kutupalong, and Juhura Begum, daughter of Sona Ali.
\nAccording to passport office sources, the two women entered the passport office together at around 12 noon. Among them, Subaira brought bank drafts, application forms and other documents for the passport. She also submitted a verified copy and photocopy of her voter ID. The voter ID belongs to a woman from Shahrasti Upazila of Chandpur.
\nFraudsters Subaira and Juhura confessed to the fraud and said that a person contacted Subaira saying that he would take her to Saudi Arabia. They collected all the documents related to the passport through that person. However, both of them claimed that they did not know the person.
\nChandpur Regional Passport Office officer Uttam Kumar Saha said, “Actually, we have to hurry up to identify such Rohingyas through the application. Although we ask various questions by looking at the appearance and language of the passport recipients. It is possible to identify such Rohingyas through those questions.”
\nChandpur Regional Passport Office Deputy Director Mahbubur Rahman said, “We are more cautious as SB clearance is closed. Otherwise, these Rohingya passports can be taken away through any loophole. We are trying to be more cautious in this regard.”
\nChandpur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bahar Mia told us, “Since they are staying legally in Kutupalong camp, they will be handed over to the camp chief.
