Algerian Ambassador to Dhaka Abdel Wahab Saldani gifted a boat to Muhammad Fawzul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Energy, Power and Mineral Resources.
\nThe gift, given at a ceremony to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Algerian Revolution on Saturday (November 1), has sparked discussion and criticism. However, the advisor himself clarified the matter in a Facebook post today. At the same time, he asked what to do with the gift.
\nThe advisor wrote, \u201cLast evening, on the National Day of Algeria, I was present as the chief guest designated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I was given a portrait of a boat with a sailor manning the mast as a gift. As a diplomatic courtesy: I accept it. The name of the embassy is written on the gift. It is to be noted that it has nothing to do with the election symbol of the Awami League.
\nSeeking advice, he also wrote, \u201cNow I can send it back to the Algerian embassy. It would be dishonorable and humiliating; I can deposit it in the government morgue. Although it is not very valuable; I can keep it in the home of the Shailan senior citizens; or I can keep it myself.” He finally wrote, “I would benefit from the reader’s advice.” On Saturday, the Algerian Embassy in Dhaka celebrated the 71st anniversary of the Glorious Revolution of 1954 at an elite hotel in the capital. Muhammad Foujul Kabir Khan, Advisor to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, was the chief guest at the event. Abdel Wahab Saldani, the Algerian Ambassador to Dhaka at that time, gifted Muhammad Foujul Kabir Khan a boat.
