Next week, US President Donald Trump is set to visit three Asian countries – Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. During the visit, the US President will hold a key meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The US President himself made the announcement on Wednesday (October 22) local time. NDTV reported.
\nTrump also said that he has cancelled his upcoming meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin due to the lack of progress in diplomatic efforts. He said, “It didn’t feel right to me. I don’t want a failed meeting.”
\nHe added, “Next week, I will be going to Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. In South Korea, I will meet with Chinese President Xi. Together, we will be able to discuss our many questions, doubts and extraordinary resources.” The Putin summit has been cancelled after Russia rejected Trump’s proposed ceasefire plan in Ukraine.
\nRegarding his upcoming meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, US President Donald Trump is optimistic that their talks can be effective in ending the Russia-Ukraine war. He also plans to discuss energy and oil with Xi to pressure Russia into a peace deal.
\nSpeaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “I’ll probably talk about it. What I’ll really talk about is how to end the war with Russia – Ukraine – whether it’s energy, oil or something else. I think he wants to see the war end.”
\nThe US president also said he was hopeful that the Chinese president could have “a big influence” on Putin and urge him to call a ceasefire. “I think he’ll have a big influence on Putin. I think he can have a big influence on a lot of people. He’s a respected man, a very strong leader, a very big country.” The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit is scheduled to be held in Gyeongju, South Korea, from October 30 to November 1.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
