The helicopter carrying Indian President Draupadi Murmu met with an accident after landing at the Pramadham stadium in Kerala. The incident took place on Wednesday (October 22) morning on its way to the Sabarimala temple.
\nAccording to a report in the Indian media ‘The Hindu’, a part of the concrete of the helipad suddenly shifted while the President’s helicopter was landing. This caused some discomfort to the Indian Air Force’s MI-17 helicopter. However, President Murmu is completely safe.
\nImmediately after the accident, police and fire personnel rushed to remove the wheels of the helicopter. A senior local police officer said that Pramadham was chosen as the landing site at the last minute. A new concrete helipad was hastily built there on Tuesday (October 21) night.
\nHe also said, ‘The concrete of the helipad has not yet hardened completely. As a result, the helicopter could not bear the weight during landing and a hole was formed under the wheels.
\nDue to bad weather, it was decided to land at Pramadham instead of Neelakkal as earlier planned, the official said.
\nIt is learnt that President Murmu, on a four-day official visit, reached Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday evening. She will offer prayers at the Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala on Wednesday morning. She is the first female head of state to offer prayers at the Sabarimala temple. Earlier, President V V Giri had visited the temple in the 1970s.
\nAccording to the President’s itinerary, he will unveil the bust of former President K R Narayanan at the Raj Bhavan next Thursday (October 23). Later, he will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the Mahasamadhi of Sri Narayana Guru at the Sivagiri Math in Varkala and attend the closing ceremony of the Platinum Jubilee of St. Thomas’ College in Kottayam.
