The court has announced the verdict after a decade in the sensational Shibir leader Mohibur Rahman Chowdhury murder case in Habiganj. One person has been sentenced to death and 13 others to life imprisonment. Habiganj District and Sessions Judge Syed Md. Kaiser Mosharraf Yusuf announced the verdict on Tuesday (October 14) afternoon.
\nThe main accused in the case, District Krishak League Vice President Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury, has been sentenced to death and the remaining 13 people have been sentenced to life imprisonment. The others sentenced are Jahangir Alam, Shebul Mia, Rubel Mia, Shamim, Abdul Mukit, Alamgir, Shamsul Huda Charful, Maqsud alias Chao Mia, Tara Mia, Ratish Das, Syed Mia and Nahid Mia. Some of the accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
\nAccording to the case source, on June 17, 2013, Shibir leader Mohibur Rahman Chowdhury was publicly hacked to death by being summoned from his house in the Puran Munsefi Pukurpar area of \u200b\u200bHabiganj city at around 8 pm. Later, locals rescued Mohibur in a seriously injured condition and took him to Habiganj Sadar Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.
\nIn this incident, Mohibur’s brother Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury filed a murder case against 23 people, including the deceased’s cousin and district Krishak League vice-president Shafiqul Alam Chowdhury, as the main accused. After a long investigation into the case, the investigating officer filed a charge sheet against 19 people in the court in 2015. Then, charges were framed against the accused on August 10, 2017.
\nThe court sentenced the guilty based on the testimony of 21 state witnesses and the evidence presented. Three accused died during the trial of the case and two were acquitted.
\nLawyer Gulzar Khan for the state and Chowdhury Ashraful Bari Noman for the accused conducted the hearing in the case. Although the plaintiff expressed satisfaction after the verdict was announced, the defendants said they would appeal the verdict to the High Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
