Students from seven government colleges are protesting in front of Shiksha Bhavan demanding the speedy finalization of the ‘Dhaka Central University Act-2025’ and the issuance of an ordinance. Today, Monday (October 13), after 11 am, students from Shaheed Suhrawardy College and Kabi Nazrul Government College took out a procession and protested in front of Shiksha Bhavan. Later, students from other colleges took part in the protest in groups with processions.
\nAt that time, the students shouted slogans like ‘There will be no delay with the ordinance’, ‘It has hit me, my blood is on fire’, ‘There will be no trade with education’ etc.
\nMeanwhile, traffic has been stopped on the road from Shiksha Bhavan to the Secretariat due to the protest. Police have set up barricades in that section to prevent students from going towards the Secretariat.
\nStrict security measures have been taken in the area surrounding the protest. A large number of police have been deployed; water cannons and armored vehicles have been kept ready.
\nThe students said that the government has announced the conversion of seven colleges into universities, but no ordinance has been issued yet. We want the ‘Dhaka Central University Act-2025’ ordinance to be issued today. Otherwise, we will be forced to take stricter measures.
\nOn March 26 this year, the government announced the formation of a new university by separating seven government colleges in the capital. The University Grants Commission (UGC) decided to keep the proposed name ‘Dhaka Central University’. The seven colleges include – Dhaka College, Eden Women’s College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Shahid Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Mirpur Bangla College and Government Titumir College.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
