Afghanistan has banned some social media platforms. The UK-based media outlet BBC reported this information in a report citing sources in the country’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
\nAfghanistan imposed the content ban a week after the country shut down internet and telecom services for two days.
\nThe report said that filters have been implemented to limit certain types of content on some platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and X. However, it is not clear what types of posts fall under the filter.
\nSome social media users in Kabul told the BBC that they are no longer able to view videos on their Facebook accounts and that Instagram access is also being affected.
\nThe BBC reported, citing a source in the Taliban government, that some controls have been implemented to limit certain types of content on platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
