Jamaat-e-Islami Vice-Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah Md. Taher has said that he does not see any concerns about the national elections in February. However, he also commented that the elections will be questionable if necessary reforms are not made.
\nHe told reporters at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Tuesday (October 7) morning after returning home after attending the United Nations session in the United States.
\nRegarding the elections in February, Jamaat’s Vice-Amir said, “I do not see any concerns about the elections in February. However, I urge the government to make the elections acceptable.”
\nStressing the importance of implementing the July Charter before the elections, he said, “If the elections are held without making the necessary reforms, then the elections will be questionable. The elections must be held through reforms based on the legal basis of the July Charter.”
\nRegarding the ongoing political situation, the Jamaat leader said, “Elections need to be held in February. Because a democratic government that represents the people is very important for the country. But past experience shows that only a fair, free and impartial election can solve the problem.”
\nResponding to a question about his stay in India at that time, Md. Taher said, “I went to the UN General Assembly as a representative of Bangladesh and also stayed for some time for medical treatment. But the rumors being spread in my name are baseless. Now, anything can be shown by making videos with AI. People understand these things.”
\nFive political leaders have gone to New York with the Chief Advisor as part of the government delegation to the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA). They are BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP Acting Chairman’s Foreign Affairs Advisor Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Naye-e-Amir Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, National Citizens Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhtar Hossain and NCP’s First Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasneem Zara.
