Alice Mogg, President of the international human rights organization Federation for Human Rights (FID), met with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
\nThey held a wide-ranging discussion on the human rights situation in Bangladesh and around the world during the meeting held at the State Guest House Jamuna on Monday (October 6).
\nProfessor Yunus thanked Alice Mogg for coming to Bangladesh and said, \u201cIt is important to further enhance international cooperation and engagement at this crucial time.\u201d
\nHe said, \u201cLast month, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, I met with many international human rights activists. I have invited all of them to come to Bangladesh because the country is going through a crucial time now.\u201d
\nProfessor Yunus added, \u201cEvery visit brings to the fore neglected issues and forces us to pay attention.\u201d
\nDuring the discussion, he recalled his late friend Archbishop Desmond Tutu and highlighted their shared commitment to justice and human dignity.
\nThe humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip was one of the topics of discussion at the meeting. Alice Mogg highlighted FID\u2019s ongoing work in support of the people of Gaza and praised Professor Yunus for his unwavering solidarity.
\n\u201cThe commitment that the interim government has shown under your leadership to uphold human rights and democratic values, even in adverse circumstances, is commendable,\u201d she said.
\nExpressing concern about the past 15 years of authoritarian rule, Mogg said, \u201cWe are deeply concerned by the incidents of disappearances, enforced disappearances and suppression of freedom of expression under the previous government.\u201d
\nHe added, \u201cThe young generation of Bangladesh is showing a strong desire for change. This makes us hopeful.
