Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Mishri has expressed hope that the upcoming national elections in Bangladesh will be free, fair, participatory and inclusive. He said, \u201cIndia is always ready to work with whichever government comes to power as per the verdict of the people of Bangladesh.\u201d
\nVikram Mishri said this at a view-sharing meeting with a delegation of the Diplomatic Journalists Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) organized by the Ministry of External Affairs of India at South Block in New Delhi on Monday (October 6).
\nThe Indian Foreign Secretary said, \u201cOur relationship with Bangladesh has always been people-centric and future-oriented. If the elections are transparent and acceptable, the long-term relationship between the two countries will deepen.\u201d
\nHe also noted that an acceptable election in Bangladesh would not only provide internal legitimacy but also help strengthen Bangladesh\u2019s image at the international level.
\nVikram Mishri said that India has always viewed its relations with Bangladesh from a \u2018people-centric\u2019 perspective. He further remarked that the historical ties between the two countries are deeply rooted in cultural, linguistic, religious and historical elements – a relationship that has stood the test of time.
\nMishri said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first world leaders to congratulate Bangladeshi Prime Minister Dr. Muhammad Yunus on his assumption of office. At the same time, he was also invited to participate in the ‘Voice of the Global South’ summit, which is a ‘matter of pride’ for the Indian side.”
\nVikram Mishri said that not only high-level but also working-level meetings are being held regularly between the two countries. Issues of mutual importance including borders, rivers, trade are being discussed in these meetings.
\nHe added, “The recent visit of Indian officials was ‘very effective’ in understanding the situation in Bangladesh.” He further remarked that it has helped in removing misunderstandings between the two countries.
\nThe Indian Foreign Secretary said, “Bangladesh-India relations are more than five decades old. I firmly believe that this relationship will remain strong in the future despite all the adversities.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
