The court has ordered a case to be filed against the officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station in Rajouri, Madaripur, and other officials concerned for torturing an accused in police custody. District Superintendent of Police Naimul Rahman has been directed to investigate the matter and take immediate action.
\nThis order was given in the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Md. Atiqul Islam Bhuiyan on Thursday (September 25) afternoon.
\nAccording to the complaint, SI Md. Mustafa Kamal of East Saramangal area arrested the accused Ilyas Khalasi on September 18. Later, when he was produced in court, the accused alleged that he was beaten in various ways in police custody on the orders of OC Sanjay. The court observed the visible injury marks on the accused’s body and said that they were consistent with the allegations.
\nConsidering the incident as an offence under the Torture and Death in Custodial (Prevention) Act, 2013, the court ordered medical treatment and examination of the accused. The medical reports of the district civil surgeon and the 250-bed hospital also confirmed the torture.
\nAccording to the law, if the arrested accused has visible injuries, there is a rule to provide immediate treatment by a government doctor, but the investigating officer did not follow it.
\nConfirming the matter, Public Prosecutor (PP) Md. Emarat Hossain Khan said, “Judge Rajoir has ordered to identify the concerned persons including Police Inspector Sanjay and file a case. In addition, a detailed report has been ordered to be submitted to the District Superintendent of Police after proper investigation.”
