BNP held a mass procession on the road after 17 years in Golapganj, Sylhet. Hundreds of leaders and activists participated in the procession organized by the upazila and municipal BNP on Saturday afternoon (September 20). At that time, the entire municipal town was filled with slogans of the procession.
\nParty sources said that during the Awami League government, BNP could not hold a public program on the road, let alone a meeting in any restaurant. Party activities were carried out on a limited scale at the homes of leaders. The leaders and activists were energized by participating in today’s procession, ending the long deadlock.
\nAdvocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury, General Secretary of Sylhet District BNP and a candidate for the nomination of Sylhet-6 (Golapganj-Beanibazar) constituency, spoke as the chief guest at the street meeting held after the procession. He alleged that in the last 17 years, Golapganj and Beanibazar have been subjected to development deprivation and neglect. Due to looting of government resources, infrastructural irregularities and discriminatory policies, the people of this region are deprived of their fair rights. Roads, educational institutions, healthcare, agriculture and employment have been extremely neglected in all areas.
\nHe promised that if BNP gets the responsibility of running the state, the first thing it will do is ensure modern communication systems, advanced educational institutions, modern facilities in healthcare and employment-oriented industrialization. In addition, sustainable development will be implemented by strengthening the expatriate-dependent economy. He also mentioned that it is his commitment to turn Golapganj-Beanibazar into a potential region by utilizing local resources and human resources.
\nAdvocate Emran Ahmed Chowdhury further said that BNP is the party of the people. Their goal is to come out of the chapter of development deprivation with the people. He called on the leaders and activists and the general public to make the symbol of the sheaf of rice victorious. At that time, he referred to the 31-point program announced by BNP as a charter of liberation for the people and said that it is not just an outline of power, but a commitment to the overall reform of the state and the liberation of the people.
\nThe meeting was also addressed by District BNP leader Mahiussunnah Chowdhury Narjis, District BNP Joint Human Rights Secretary Minhaj Ahmed Chowdhury, Upazila BNP Vice President Nazrul Islam, Upazila BNP leader M Sirajul Islam, Mohammad Abdul Jalil Chabu, Sadar Union BNP President Kamrul Islam Chowdhury, General Secretary Ainul Islam Rekol and leaders of various unions in the upazila.
