National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam is giving the remaining testimony of three people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, in the case of crimes against humanity committed in July-August. Today, Thursday (September 18), after 11 am, the testimony of the judicial panel led by International Crimes Tribunal-1 Chairman Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumdar began.
\nToday, prosecutor Mizanul Islam and prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim are conducting the hearing for the state at the tribunal. Earlier, Nahid’s testimony was recorded from 3 pm to 4:30 pm on September 17. However, as it was not completed, the tribunal adjourned it until today. Nahid Islam will give the remaining testimony at the beginning of the tribunal trial today. After that, state-appointed lawyer Md. Amir Hossain will cross-examine her on behalf of Sheikh Hasina and Kamal.
\nThe tribunal trial began at 10:45 am on Wednesday. At the beginning, for the second day, the state’s lawyer questioned Mahmudur Rahman, editor of the daily Amar Desh, for the first time. As of the 18th day of testimony, 47 people are still being taken.
\nMahmudur Rahman’s testimony and interrogation were conducted from September 15 to September 17. However, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said that the testimony of this case will be declared complete only after Nahid Islam’s statement.
\nFormer IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who is an accused in the case and has become a state witness, testified as witness number 36 on September 2. His interrogation ended on September 4. He apologized and said that the genocide was carried out in July-August on the orders of Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal. At the same time, he presented many unknown facts before the tribunal. The tenth day of testimony and interrogation ended on September 1. Today, six people gave their statements. Among them are doctors, journalists and eyewitnesses.
\nOn July 10, the tribunal ordered the trial to begin with formal indictments against Sheikh Hasina, Kamal and Mamun. In this case, the state brought five charges of crimes against humanity against them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
