The European Commission’s foreign policy chief, Kadri Simson, announced that the EU is preparing to impose trade restrictions on 37% of its trade with Israel. This measure aims to target the portion of EU trade with Israel that benefits from preferential trade status. She stated that this represents approximately 37% of the total \u20ac42.6 billion in trade in 2024. Simson said that if approved, this would cause significant damage to Israel. However, she acknowledged that this measure requires the majority support of EU member states, which will not be easy to obtain. She added, “This measure is being taken in response to the ongoing Israeli atrocities in Gaza. We hope that member states will support this decision.”<\/p>\n
