The independent parliamentary candidate for Faridpur-4 (Bhanga-Sadarpur-Charbadrasan) constituency, Raihan Jamil, fled the area to save his life after facing public outrage following his failed attempt to distribute free hilsa fish. The distribution event was scheduled to take place at the Bishwa Jaker Monjil Government High School ground in Sadarpur upazila of Faridpur on Tuesday morning (September 16). Local residents alleged that hundreds of people from various villages gathered after hearing about the free hilsa fish distribution. However, due to an insufficient supply of fish, chaos erupted among the crowd. At one point, pressured by the angry mob, Raihan Jamil abandoned the fish and attempted to leave the area quickly. Later, when he reached the Bhasanchar Union Parishad area, an agitated crowd stopped his vehicle. With the situation escalating, he managed to escape with the help of some locals. Local residents who had come to receive the fish said, “We heard that hilsa fish would be distributed for only 10 taka. We were standing there since morning, but we didn’t get any fish. Instead, there was scuffling and fighting. Then we saw the MP candidate himself fleeing.” Regarding the incident, Raihan Jamil stated, “I initiated the hilsa fish distribution for the benefit of the people. But due to the unexpected crowd and chaos, the situation went out of control. For my safety, I had to leave the place quickly.” Sadarpur police station officer-in-charge (OC) Sukdeb Roy said, “I had warned Raihan about this earlier. He didn’t listen to us and started the distribution program. Later, I sent police to control the situation. However, no untoward incident occurred.” According to locals, such campaigns in the election area can create confusion and chaos among the public.
