Nepal’s tourism sector has lost around Rs 2,500 crore due to political unrest. However, the administration is taking various steps to restore the momentum in the sector. It has announced free visa renewal for the affected. The general public of the country is assuring foreign tourists of their safety through posts on social media. Nepal has faced a loss of around Rs 25 billion or Rs 2,500 crore due to the agitation just before the start of the tourist season. Hotels have been vandalized, airports have been closed, lakhs of bookings have been cancelled due to political tension. Major tourist destinations like Pokhara, Bhairahawa, Biratnagar and Dhangarhi have been severely affected. However, since the fall of the government and the new interim government came to power, the situation has started to normalize. Nepalese citizens themselves are assuring foreign tourists about their safety through posts on social media. The country’s administration is also taking various steps to revive the tourism sector. The Nepal Tourism Board has announced free renewal of visas expired on or after September 8 during the unrest. Nepal’s trade sector has also started to return to its normal rhythm. The supply of goods across the India-Nepal border resumed last Friday.
