An Air India flight is in trouble again. Shortly after takeoff, a decision was made to shut down the engine from the cockpit immediately after a fire was detected in one of the flight’s engines. Indian media reported that a mid-air panic broke out on an Air India flight from Delhi to Indore on Sunday (August 31) morning. Shortly after takeoff from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the cockpit crew of flight AI 2913 noticed a fire in the right engine. The pilots immediately took emergency measures and shut down the engine and the plane was brought back to Delhi. In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said, ‘Flight AI 2913, which departed from Delhi for Indore on August 31, returned to Delhi on an emergency basis after receiving a fire signal in the right engine mid-air. The aircraft landed safely and all passengers are safe.’ The statement also said that the plane has been grounded for inspection. Arrangements are being made to send passengers to Indore on an alternative flight. The regulatory body has been informed about the matter. We apologize for the inconvenience caused to the passengers. The safety of passengers and crew is our top priority for Air India.\u2019 The report said that the incident of fire in the engine of an Air India plane did not turn into a major accident for a short time. Although the right engine caught fire as the plane has two engines, the left engine was working properly. This is why the plane was able to fly in mid-air for a while. Later, the pilot made a quick decision and brought the plane back to Delhi. On June 12, an Air India flight from Ahmedabad to London-Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff. A total of 260 people, including passengers, pilots and flight attendants, were killed.
