Maqbul Hossain, the father of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the July Uprising, wants to see the trial of the murder of Abu Sayeed while he is still alive. He said this while testifying before the judicial panel led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, Chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, on Thursday (August 28). While testifying at the tribunal, Maqbul Hossain, the father of martyr Abu Sayeed, said, “I want to see the trial of my son while I am still alive.” Abu Sayeed’s father also demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in the murder. The prosecution has said that the trial of the case will be completed within a reasonable time. The death of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, turned the tide of the July Uprising. Martyr Abu Sayeed, who fearlessly held out his arms in the face of police gunfire, became a source of inspiration for millions of people against tyranny. When he received the news of Abu Sayeed’s death in police firing on July 16, it was as if the sky had fallen on his father Maqbul Hossain. In his testimony before the tribunal, he said that he had always wanted his son to have a job during his lifetime. Since that dream was not fulfilled, Maqbul Hossain now wants to see his son’s murder tried. The testimony in the case began with the statement of the father of Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the July uprising. In his testimony, he demanded justice for those involved in the murder of his son, including policemen. On this day, Tribunal-2 ordered the submission of an investigation report against former RAB officers Alep Uddin and Mohiuddin Faruki in the disappearance case by November 30.
