The Israeli military has carried out airstrikes in the Yemeni capital Sanaa amid tensions over the ongoing war in Gaza. Israeli and Yemeni officials confirmed that at least six Yemenis were killed in the attack. The Houthi-backed Al Masirah TV reported that the strikes targeted an oil facility and a power plant in Sanaa on Sunday (August 24) local time. Israel claimed that it also targeted the presidential palace in Sanaa, which it described as “part of a military base”. According to Al Masirah, the attack killed six people and wounded 86 Yemenis. The attack came two days after the Houthis claimed missile attacks on Israel. The Houthis claim that such attacks are being carried out to pressure them to end their ongoing blockade and oppression of Gaza. The Israeli military said in a statement that the strike was carried out in response to the Houthi terrorist group\u2019s \u201crepeated attacks on Israel, including surface-to-surface missiles and drone strikes.\u201d Al Masirah quoted a Houthi military official as saying that their air defense systems were able to \u201cdisable\u201d most of the Israeli aircraft. Footage verified by Al Jazeera showed flames and smoke rising in the sky over Sanaa after the attack. On Sunday (August 24), the Houthi group made it clear that \u201cthis attack will not stop our military operation.\u201d \u201cThis Israeli aggression will not stop us from supporting Gaza, no matter how great the sacrifices,\u201d said Houthi official Mohammed al-Bukhaiti.<\/p>\n
