A court has sentenced Amina Khatun, wife of former Teknaf Upazila Chairman Zafar Ahmed, to 3 years and 6 months in prison in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on charges of acquiring illegal assets and concealing information. The court of Chittagong Divisional Special Judge Mizanur Rahman gave the verdict on Monday (August 25). The convicted Amina Khatun (55) is the wife of Zafar Ahmed of North Lengur Beel area of \u200b\u200bTeknaf Upazila. According to the case documents, Amina Khatun provided false information by concealing information of assets worth Tk 26,57,734 with malicious intent in the asset declaration submitted to the ACC. In addition, a case was filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act as it was proven that she acquired and possessed assets worth Tk 31,46,000 inconsistently with her known source of income. On April 1, 2019, the then Deputy Assistant Director of the ACC, Md. Riaz Uddin filed the case at the Double Mooring Police Station in Nagar. After the investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court on September 1, 2021. ACC PP Advocate Mukarram Hossain said, “The court has sentenced Amina Khatun, the wife of former Teknaf Upazila Chairman Zafar Ahmed, to 3 years and 6 months in prison as the charges were proven in the ACC case filed on charges of acquiring illegal assets and concealing information. The illegally acquired assets have been confiscated in favor of the state. The accused was present in the court when the verdict was announced.” He said, “Former Teknaf Upazila Chairman Zafar Ahmed is a yaba dealer listed by the Home Ministry.
