The Netrokona Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal has sentenced a man named Rahmat Ali to life in prison for raping a seven-year-old girl in Mohanganj, Netrokona. At the same time, he has been sentenced to another 2 years in prison for failing to pay a fine of Tk 50,000. District and Sessions Judge Dr. AKM Emdadul Haque gave this verdict in a crowded courtroom on Wednesday (August 20) afternoon in the presence of the accused. The court gave this verdict after recording the testimonies of 8 witnesses and proving the crime beyond doubt. A brief description of the case reveals that on the morning of May 3, 2012, a first-grade girl was picked up from the grounds of a private primary school in Mohanganj and raped in the classroom. When the child fell ill after returning home, she was taken to the hospital. Later, the child’s mother filed a case with Mohanganj Police Station the next day, accusing Rahmat Ali of the school area, son of the deceased Yad Ali of Maizhati village.
