The US State Department has released its annual report on the human rights situation in Bangladesh. The US annual report, released on Tuesday (August 12) local time, said that there have been positive changes in the human rights situation in Bangladesh since the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government. The report also noted that although the human rights situation in Bangladesh has stabilized since the popular uprising in August 2024, there are concerns in some areas. There is room for further improvement in accountability for past serious violations of the law, establishing the rule of law, and protecting civil rights. It is noted that arbitrary killings, disappearances, and police and political violence occurred widely during the previous government. The report stated that at least 986 people were killed between July and September alone. The report also noted that the interim government announced the withdrawal of more than 1,000 cases filed under various cyber laws, including the Digital Security Act, and the release of detainees after coming to power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
