Police have arrested two brothers named Hafizur Rahman (47) and Ujjal Hossain (36) in Singra, Natore, on charges of extortion in the name of journalists. They were arrested from the food godown area of the upazila on Wednesday (August 6) afternoon. The detainees’ homes are in the Tarash Municipality area of Sirajganj. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Singra Police Station Rafiqul Islam said that Hafizur and Ujjal went to the food godown posing as journalists. Later, they intimidated the officials and demanded money. When their conversation became suspicious, the officials informed the police. Later, the police went to the spot and arrested them and brought them to the police station. In this incident, the officer-in-charge of the upazila food godown, Shafiur Rahman, filed a case against them as the plaintiff. Initially, the two arrested brothers confessed to extortion.
