Only elected government has the right to reform, said BNP standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moin Khan. He made the remarks at a seminar of Democracy Days Bangladesh at a hotel in Gulshan, the capital, on Wednesday (July 30). Stating that PR is a complicated process, Moin Khan said that those who have raised this demand should conduct a survey on the people. Only then will it be clear whether people want to vote according to the conventional rules or want PR. At the seminar, Debapriya Bhattacharya, Honorary Fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), a private research organization, said that it is time for the interim government to think about their ‘exit’. He also called for thinking about how much legitimacy their steps will give to the next government. He also commented that the reform process is ongoing – as much reform as possible should be done, not just done. At the same event, journalist and political analyst Masud Kamal said that the government is trying to delay the election by wasting time in the name of reform.
