A fatal bus accident in Pakistan’s northeastern province of Punjab has killed eight people. The accident occurred near Balqasar Interchange in Chakwal district on Sunday (July 27). 18 others were injured. The Dawn reported. A wheel of a passenger bus from the capital Islamabad to Lahore suddenly exploded. The driver lost control and the bus fell into a deep ditch on the side of the road and overturned. There were 35 to 40 passengers on the bus. Three children were among the dead. Their ages were 8 months, 1 year and 2 years respectively. The oldest deceased was 45 years old. The injured were between 14 and 55 years old. Dr. Mukhtar Sarwar Niazi, Medical Superintendent of Chakwal District Sadar Hospital, said that out of the 12 injured brought to the hospital, 4 are in critical condition and have been referred to a hospital in Rawalpindi. Chakwal SP Ahmed Mohiuddin has sent a team of senior police officers to the spot. Police said that the area has been cordoned off and action is being taken as per the law. The injured have been taken to Kalar Kahar Tehsil Sadar Hospital and Chakwal District Sadar Hospital. The bodies of the deceased have also been sent to the hospital. It is worth noting that fatal road accidents often occur on highways in Pakistan.
