This information was given in a heavy rainfall warning signed by Meteorological Department meteorologist Md. Toriful Newaz Kabir on Thursday (July 24). It said that a low pressure area has formed in the north Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. Due to this, heavy (44-88 mm\/24 hours) to very heavy (>88 mm\/24 hours) rainfall is likely to occur in many places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions in the next 72 hours from 5 pm today. Due to the very heavy rainfall, there is also a risk of landslides in some places in the hilly areas of Chittagong, Rangamati, Khagrachari, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar districts. Along with this, temporary waterlogging may occur in some places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong metropolis due to heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, the warning message at the seaports has said that a low pressure has formed in the North Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas. It may intensify further. Due to this, there is an excess of air pressure variation in the North Bay of Bengal. Gusty or stormy winds may blow over the North Bay of Bengal, the coastal areas of Bangladesh and the seaports. For this reason, the seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to display local warning signal number 3.
