The Mujibist constitution of 1972 that we have been speaking against, has not included all communities, said Nahid Islam, convener of the National Citizens Party (NCP). Nahid Islam made this comment at a rally held in Rangamati on Sunday (June 20) afternoon after a march. He said, “In the last fifty years, the people of Bangladesh were divided in various ways, of which the Chittagong Hill Tracts are the biggest victim. By enduring various unrests and divisions in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, another party repeatedly tries to take advantage, we will not let this third party take advantage again.” Nahid Islam said, “If there is any problem between us, between the communities, we will solve it ourselves, we will not let any other party take advantage, for this we have to unite.” Nahid also said, “The Mujibist constitution of 1972 that we have been speaking against; Rangamati leader MN Larma opposed the 1972 constitution. We want to abolish the Mujibist constitution and write a democratic constitution.\u2019 The convener of the National Citizens Party said, \u2018We will make a new agreement, where your rights and my rights will also be there. The unrest and division that has been going on in the hills for years, that unrest and division must be eliminated.\u2019 In the name of Bengali nationalism, division has been created with the non-Bengali community, division has been created in the name of secularism. We want to go beyond all divisions and write a constitution that gives dignity to all communities.\u2019 Earlier, the march reached Rangamati at 1 pm and started from the Shilpakala Academy and ended at Banarupa Chattar. The rally held there was addressed by: Joint Member Secretary of the National Citizens Committee Samantha Sharmin, Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr. Tasneem Zara, Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah.
