He made this comment in a post on his verified Facebook account on Wednesday (July 9) night. The chief organizer of the NCP for the northern region made this comment after the Election Commission (EC) decided not to list the ‘Shapla’ as an election symbol. Sarjis wrote in the post, the Shapla is not a national symbol. It is a part of the national symbol. Similarly, the paddy ear, jute leaf and star are also part of the national symbol. If the Shapla cannot be a symbol of a political party, then the paddy ear cannot be a symbol either. And if any part of the national symbol can be a symbol of a political party, then the Shapla can be a symbol too. He further wrote, “There is no legal obstacle to the national flower being the symbol of Shapla. Because, the national fruit jackfruit is already a symbol.
