The government is considering opening an office of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) in China. This will be BIDA’s first international office. BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun said this at a seminar organized at a hotel in the capital on Wednesday (July 9). At the time, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said that investment agreements were signed with 20 Chinese companies last August. Their total expected investment commitment has exceeded several billion dollars. He also said that as part of the safeguard, a trilateral forum is being discussed between Bangladesh, China and Pakistan. This is not a concern for any other country. Referring to China, which has suffered the most from the US tariffs, Ambassador Yao Wen said that Bangladesh has its own capabilities to deal with this problem.
