Police are opening fire on protesters in the anti-government protests in the East African country of Kenya. The death toll continues to rise. So far, 31 protesters have been killed. Another 107 have been injured. In addition, 532 people have been arrested. Al Jazeera reported this information, citing human rights organizations. The people of the country held a protest march on Monday (July 7) to mark the 35th anniversary of the 1990 popular uprising. However, it quickly turned into an anti-government movement of President William Ruto. However, the police began to use excessive force to suppress the protests. They are even shooting directly at the protesters. In a statement on Tuesday (July 8), the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) released information on casualties and arrests. The commission also said that at least two people have been disappeared in the past two days. According to the Al Jazeera report, clashes occurred between protesters and police in the capital Nairobi and the city of Eldoret during last Monday’s march. The Human Rights Commission KNCHR alleged that several armed groups armed with machetes and spears attacked the procession. They were assisted by the police.
