The political parties met again today for the second time with the National Consensus Commission. Leaders of various political parties and alliances including BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami participated in the meeting. The second phase of the National Consensus Commission’s discussions with political parties are underway with the aim of establishing a consensus on the issue of reforms in various sectors of the state.<\/p>\n
The meeting began at 11 am on Tuesday (June 3) at the Foreign Service Academy. Consensus Commission Vice President Ali Riaz is presiding over it.<\/p>\n
The second phase of the meeting was inaugurated by Chief Advisor and Chairman of the Consensus Commission Mohammad Yunus on Monday (June 2). The second phase of the discussion has been organized to bridge the gap between different political parties on the issue of reforms.<\/p>\n
According to Consensus Commission sources, after the Chief Advisor meets with the political parties, the commission’s discussions with the political parties will be thematic. The parties will continue thematic discussions one day before the holy Eid-ul-Azha and after Eid. In particular, the fundamental proposals of the Constitutional Reform Commission that have not yet reached a consensus will be given more importance in this phase. The Consensus Commission aims to prepare the ‘July Charter’ in July based on consensus through discussions with political parties.<\/p>\n
In October last year, the interim government formed the Constitution, Electoral System, Public Administration, Judiciary, Anti-Corruption Commission and Police Reform Commission. The commissions submitted their full reports in February.
