Indian airline Air India is considering severing ties with the world’s leading airline ‘Turkish Technic’. The Indian airline has said that this decision was taken by prioritizing nationalist sentiments.<\/p>\n
Air India CEO and MD Campbell Wilson told NDTV, ‘If there is any concern in continuing the business like this, we will find an alternative.’<\/p>\n
He said, ‘Air India is ready to sever ties with Turkish Technic. We are giving importance to public sentiments.’<\/p>\n
Earlier, IndiGo Airlines had announced to sever ties with the Turkish company. Following the instructions of the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation, IndiGo announced to terminate the ‘lease agreement’ with the Turkish airline within the next three months.<\/p>\n
Out of IndiGo’s 400 aircraft, only two are leased from Turkish Airlines. However, IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers also said that the contract could be canceled if necessary.<\/p>\n
Explaining the cancellation of the contract with the Turkish company, Wilson said, “We have completed the maintenance work of some of our flights. In addition, alternative companies are being considered for the maintenance of some of our flights.”<\/p>\n
The maintenance and repair work of Air India’s Boeing 777 flights is currently carried out by Air India Engineering Services Limited. Some of the aircraft are also being sent to Abu Dhabi and Singapore.<\/p>\n
The recent conflict between India and Pakistan has a direct impact on Air India’s relationship with the Turkish company. With Pakistan’s airspace closed to Indian-owned airlines, some Air India flights in North America have had to operate on different, longer routes. Some non-stop services have now been converted into one-stop flights for refueling the aircraft.<\/p>\n
