The US media outlet Axios reported this information in a report, citing three sources familiar with the talks.<\/p>\n
The report said that the White House is optimistic that a ceasefire agreement can be reached soon as a result of a new proposal by US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff.<\/p>\n
A source told the media, “If all parties involved in the ceasefire make some concessions from their positions, we can reach an agreement within a few days.”<\/p>\n
On Wednesday night, Hamas said that it had reached an agreement with Witkoff on a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and a general framework for the free entry of humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n
A Hamas statement said, “We have reached an agreement with Witkoff on a general framework that will ensure a permanent ceasefire, a complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza, and the free entry of humanitarian aid.”<\/p>\n
Hamas said the agreement includes “the establishment of a professional committee to manage Gaza affairs after the ceasefire is declared.”<\/p>\n
Hamas also said it would release 10 living Israeli hostages and the remains of several others in exchange for a mutually agreed number of Palestinian prisoners, based on guarantees from the mediators.<\/p>\n
Axios reported that Witkoff met with Trump in the Oval Office after Hamas’ announcement and prepared “a new term sheet” for the president’s approval.<\/p>\n
Steve Witkoff said in this regard, “I am very optimistic about a temporary ceasefire and a long-term solution, as well as a peaceful resolution to the conflict.”<\/p>\n
